Title. Demonstrations of the Holy Fathers against the Julianists, which teach [the following things]

ܬܚܘ̈ܝܬܐ ܕܠܘܩܒܠ ܝܘܠܝܢܣ̈ܛܢܐ ܕܐܒܗ̈ܬܐ ܩܕܝܫ̈ܐ܆ ܕܡ̈ܠܦ̣ܢ

1. The human being is mortal by his nature

ܥܠ ܗ̇ܝ ܕܡܝܘܬܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܒܪ ܐܢܫܐ ܒܟܝܢܗ܀

2. On the fact that by grace and not by nature did Adam have immortality, and about the fact that death ruled over half of the nature.

11. On the fact that Julian says ‘not limited’

37. Not because he had a different mode of existence, but because not from semen but from the Spirit and from a Virgin - because of this he is not connatural with us in the flesh

38. After the resurrection the flesh of the Emmanuel did not change, nor did it pass to the nature of Divinity, or the Divinity passed to the nature of the flesh; and the flesh was divine, as that of the man was human

39. Refutation of what Julian said on our Savoir, that he did not fall under death

40. The soul of our Lord was separated from his body

41. Refutation of what Julian said, that in one of [its] species passion did not molest him

ܕܐܟܘܬܢ ܡܪܓܫ ܗܘܐ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܒܟܐܒ̈ܐ ܕܡܢ ܡܚ̈ܘܬܐ ܇ ܟܕ ܡܬܢ̇ܓܕ ܗܘܐ. ܘܕܡܚܪܡܝܢ ܚܢܢ ܠܗ̇ܢܘܢ ܕܐܡܪܝܢ܇ ܕܟܕ ܡܬܢ̇ܓܕ ܠܐ ܟܐ̇ܒ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ܀

47. On the fact that the noun ‘corruption’ is taken in different meanings in the Holy Scriptures, and by the saintly Fathers. They call ‘corruption’ the sin and the sentence which comes on its account; moreover, there are places where [they call ‘corruption’] the innocent suffering. And [they call ‘corruption’] the sin, for example, where the blessed Moses says:

ܥܠ ܗ̇ܝ ܕܫܡܐ ܕܚܒ̇ܠܐ܆ ܒܫܘ̈ܘܕܥܐ ܡܫܚ̈ܠܦܐ ܡܫܬ̣ܩܠ ܒܟ̈ܬܒܐ ܩܕ̈ܝܫܐ܇ ܘܡܢ ܐܒܗ̈ܬܐ ܚܣ̈ܝܐ. ܠܚܛܝܬܐ̣ ܩ̇ܪܝܢ ܚܒ̇ܠܐ. ܘܠܡܣܡ ܒܪܝܫܐ ܗ̇ܘ ܕܐ̇ܬܐ ܡܛܠ ܗܕܐ. ܐܝܬ ܬܘܒ ܐܝܟܐ̣ ܕܠܚ̈ܫܐ ܠܐ ܥ̈ܕܝܠܐ. ܘܠܚܛܝܬܐ ܡ̣̇ܢ. ܐܝܟ ܐܝܟܐ ܕܐܡ̇ܪ ܛܘܒܢܐ ܡܘܫܐ܇

48. On the fact that the noun ‘passions’ is also referred to the bad vices of sin

ܥܠ ܗ̇ܝ ܕܫܘܡܗܐ ܕܚ̈ܫܐ܆ ܘܥܠ ܡܘ̈ܡܐ ܒܝ̣̈ܫܐ ܕܚܛܝ̣ܬܐ ܡܫ̣ܬܩܠ.

49. On the fact that the Sacred Scripture calls death ‘corruption’

ܥܠ ܗ̇ܝ ܕܠܡ̇ܘܬܐ ܚ̇ܒܠܐ ܫ̇ܡܗ ܟܬܒܐ ܩܕܝܫܐ.

50. Julian contradicts himself and calls suffering and death ‘corruption’

ܕܩܐ̇ܡ ܝܘܠܝܠܐ ܠܘܩܒܠ ܢܦܫܗ܆ ܘܠܚ̈ܫܐ ܘܠܡܘܬܐ̣ ܚܒ̇ܠܐ ܡܫܡܗ.

51. That suffering is called ‘corruption’ also according to the wise of outside

ܕܡܬܐܡܪܝܢ ܚܫ̈ܐ ܚ̇ܒܠܐ̣ ܘܐܝܟ ܚܟܝ̈ܡܐ ܕܠܒܪ܀

52. On the fact that Christ endured our [same] sufferings and our death in the flesh

ܥܠ ܗ̇ܝ ܕܚ̈ܫܝܢ ܘܡܘܬܢ ܣܒ̣ܠ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܒܒܣܪ.

53. On the fact that the passion and death of Christ were called ‘corruption’ by the prophets and the apostles and the holy Fathers.

54. On the fact that hunger is corruption

ܥܠ ܗ̇ܝ ܕܟܦܢܐ ܚ̇ܒܠܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ.

55. Our Lord ate and drank

ܕܐ̇ܟܠ ܗܘܐ ܡܪܢ ܘܫ̇ܬܐ.

56. The food of our Lord was digested

ܕܦܫܪܬ ܡܐܟܘܠܬܗ ܕܡܪܢ.

57. The body of Christ needed to grow up

ܕܣܢܝܩ ܗܘܐ ܦܓܪܗ ܕܡܫܝܚܐ ܥܠ ܬܪܒܝܬܐ.

58. On the difference of the ages and on [the fact] that Christ shared this with us

ܡܛܠ ܫܘܚܠܦܐ ܕܩܘܡ̈ܬܐ ܘܕܐܫܬܘܬܦ ܠܢ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܒܗܢܐ .

59. Everything that was created is corruptible

ܕܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܬܥ̣ܒܕ ܡܬܚ̇ܒܠܢܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ.

60. Not because he could not, did not Christ immediately make his own body immortal and impassible: he allowed it to remain passible and mortal, but wanting to defeat death in a not tyrannical way

ܕܠܘ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܐ ܡܨܐ ܗܘܐ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܕܠܐ ܡܝܘܬܐ ܘܠܐ ܚܫܘܫܐ ܡܚܕܐ ܢܥ̣ܒܕܝܘܗܝ ܠܦܓܪܗ܇ ܫܒܩܗ ܕܢܟܬܪ ܚܫܘܫܐ ܘܡܝܘܬܐ܆ ܐܠܐ ܟܕ ܨ̇ܒܐ ܕܠܘ ܛܪܘܢܐܝܬ ܢܙܟܝܘܗܝ ܠܡܘܬܐ.

61. That the body of our Lord is created, and that we are set free from the worship of creation

ܕܒܪܝܐ ܗ̣ܘ ܦܓܪܗ ܕܡܪܢ܆ ܘܕܡܚܪܪܝܢ ܚܢܢ ܡܢ ܣܓܕܬܐ ܕܒܪܝܬܐ.

62. A highly useful thought on the fact that the same Christ is confessed as passible and impassible, and mortal and immortal

ܣܘܟܠܐ ܕܣ̇ܓܝ ܚܫ̇ܚ܇ ܡܛܠ ܗ̇ܝ ܕܗ̣ܘ ܟܕ ܗ̣ܘ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܡܬܬܘܕܐ ܚܫܘܫܐ ܘܠܐ ܚܫܘܫܐ܇ ܘܡܝܘܬܐ ܘܠܐ ܡܝܘܬܐ.

63. Christ suffered in a body enslaved to passions, and he performed in himself all the duties of nature, and he enslaved his soul to all the human necessities

ܕܒܦܓܪܐ ܕܡܫܥܒܕ ܠܚ̈ܫܐ ܚ̣ܫ ܡܫܝܚܐ܆ ܘܕܟܠܗܝܢ ܕܟܝܢܐ ܫܡ̣ܫ ܒܩܢܘܡܗ܆ ܘܫܥܒܕ ܢܦܫܗ ܠܟܠܗܘܢ ܣܘܢܩ̈ܢܐ ܐܢܫܝ̈ܐ.

64. Refutation of what Julian said, that just as the body was when it suffered, so it rose without difference

ܡܟܣܢܘܬܐ ܕܗ̇ܝ ܕܐܡ̣ܪ ܝܘܠܝܢܐ܇ ܕܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܦܓܪܐ ܟܕ ܚ̣ܫ: ܗܟܢܐ ܩܡ ܕܠܐ ܚܘܠܦܐ.
